US to end $45M annual support for Namibia's HIV programs

Namibia will soon lose U.S. financial support for its HIV response programs, with $45 million allocated for the 2027 fiscal year. Following this, Namibia will independently fund its HIV initiatives, as the U.S. transitions to a technical cooperation model. This decision comes after Namibia rejected U.S. proposals for sharing health data, citing privacy and sovereignty issues. The U.S. has contributed over $1.1 billion to Namibia's HIV response since 2003, and the country has surpassed key UNAIDS targets in HIV treatment.
