Kazakhstan attracts record foreign investment and expands non-oil exports in 2025

Kazakhstan is diversifying its economy beyond commodities. In the first half of 2026, the country recorded a trade surplus of over €7.5 billion, with total trade turnover near €62 billion. Imports rose 5.4% year on year, prompting a push for import substitution. Over the past four years, Kazakhstan signed 62 investment agreements worth €32 billion, and in 2025, it signed 173 more contracts worth €2.6 billion. Foreign direct investment inflows reached nearly €18 billion in 2025, up 14.4%. Non-resource exports, such as animal feed and sunflower oil, grew significantly, while oil exports declined.
