Audi launches third-generation Audi 80 in Germany with galvanized body and aerodynamic design

In 1986, Audi launched the third-generation Audi 80 (B3) in Germany, designed by Helmut Warkuß with assistance from J Mays. The car featured a fully galvanized body and aerodynamic styling, setting it apart from competitors like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes 190. The Audi 90, with five-cylinder engines, followed in 1987. The models were successful, becoming among the best-selling cars in Germany. Production continued until 1991, and in 2026, Audi celebrated the 40th anniversary of the B3 with a special exhibition at the Audi Museum in Ingolstadt.
