European carmakers lose repair-cost advantage over Chinese rivals in Germany, Allianz says
In Germany, a new analysis by the Allianz Center for Technology shows that European carmakers have lost most of their advantage over Chinese rivals in insurance type classes. In 2024, European models were on average three classes better; by 2026, only one. Chinese manufacturers improved by 1.5 classes, while European worsened by 0.5. The analysis covers new models launched since 2024. Christian Sahr, AZT head, warns that European makers are neglecting repair-friendliness, which could increase costs for owners. However, buying a Chinese car still carries risk due to uncertain manufacturer survival.
