Microsoft agrees to protect student data in landmark AI privacy deal

Microsoft has agreed to adopt sweeping AI privacy and safety standards for its products used in schools, following negotiations with the American Federation of Teachers. The agreement, announced last week, prohibits the use of student and educator data to train AI systems and bans AI features designed to foster emotional attachment. It aims to set an industry standard in the absence of federal legislation. Other tech companies, including Google, have not yet committed to similar protections, though OpenAI and Anthropic are working on their own agreements.
