Lidl keeps stores in insolvent German department chain Galeria

In Germany, the department store chain Galeria has filed for insolvency for the fourth time, following the bankruptcy of its Austrian parent company Signa Group. Despite this, the discount supermarket Lidl is keeping its stores inside Galeria buildings open, including locations in Hamburg and Berlin. Lidl says these stores can operate independently with separate entrances and systems. The company plans to open four more such stores by the end of 2026, in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, and Viernheim, although there is a potential conflict over the Viernheim site with the building's owner.
