Major League Baseball proposes 154-game season and best-of-seven Division Series for 2029

On Thursday, Major League Baseball proposed to the players' union a plan to shorten the regular season from 162 to 154 games starting in 2029, and to expand the Division Series to best-of-seven. The proposal also includes allowing higher-seeded teams to choose their playoff opponents and making Monday a day off for most teams. MLB stated that player salaries would not be reduced, but bonus thresholds would be adjusted. The league argues the changes would improve player health and enhance the postseason. The players' union has not yet responded.
