UN human rights chief says civilians are hardest hit by renewed fighting in Yemen

On September 24, the UN human rights chief, Volker Turk, said civilians are bearing the brunt of renewed fighting in Yemen between Houthi forces and Saudi-backed government troops. The conflict has escalated since a 2022 truce collapsed, with over 130,000 people displaced. The UN documented 32 civilian deaths, including 15 children, and three attacks on displaced sites. Both sides accuse each other of targeting civilians. Turk called for protection of civilians and humanitarian access.
