Cameroon's SDF Vice-President Louis Marie Kakdeu says country is not doomed to perpetual debt

In September 2026, Louis Marie Kakdeu, Second Vice-President of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) in Cameroon, criticized the government's heavy reliance on debt financing. He noted that since the end of the IMF program in July 2025, no new agreement has been reached, and the finance minister has been traveling to financial capitals, including a visit to London. The 2026 budget shows a financing need of 3104.2 billion FCFA, up from 2326.5 billion in 2025. Moody's confirmed a Caa1 rating, indicating high risk.
