German auto industry business climate falls to minus 35 in September, Ifo Institute reports

In Germany, the Ifo Institute reported that the business climate in the automotive industry deteriorated sharply in September 2026. The index fell by 13 points to minus 35, one of the lowest levels in years. The current business situation was assessed much worse, dropping from minus 6.1 to minus 31.3. Export expectations reversed dramatically, from a positive 17.4 in August to minus 15.1 in September. Employment expectations, earnings situation, and order books also declined. Ifo expert Anita Wölfl stated that the industry remains in crisis.
