North Korea fires 10 missiles after Trump's overture

North Korea launched about 10 short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea on Thursday, according to South Korea's military. The launches occurred from the Pyongyang area around 5 p.m. local time, a day after North Korea dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to scale back joint military exercises with South Korea. Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said she was not aware of any communication between the leaders and called the reduction of drills 'not even worthy of comment.' South Korea's national security council held an emergency meeting and urged North Korea to halt missile launches, which are banned by U.N. Security Council resolutions.
