California cities Gilroy and Morgan Hill showcase public art to boost community identity

In California, the cities of Gilroy and Morgan Hill have embraced public art to strengthen community identity. Gilroy unveiled two large murals in 2023 on Railroad Alley, part of the 'Gallery in the Alley' project, while Morgan Hill features a poppy jasper mural on a parking garage, statues, and utility box art. These installations are highlighted ahead of the Open Studios Art Tour on October 24-25, where local artists will open their studios to the public. The art is seen as a way to make the cities more distinctive and inviting, encouraging residents and visitors to pause and connect with their surroundings.
