China has completed the main structure of its first offshore platform designed to inject carbon dioxide (CO2) into subsea geological formations. The platform, weighing nearly 17,000 tons, will separate CO2 from natural gas extraction, compress it, and pump it back into the reservoir to enhance gas recovery and store over 1 million tons of CO2 annually. This project, located in China's offshore waters, is the first large-scale application of this technology in the country, aiming to extend the life of a mature gas field while reducing carbon emissions.
