German singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann, who has Jewish roots and lost family in the Holocaust, sharply criticized the Israeli government in a recent interview. He said Israel's actions in Gaza constitute a war crime, though not genocide, and called Prime Minister Netanyahu and his government the worst antisemites. Biermann accused them of turning Israel into a brutal oppressor state. His comments come as he prepares to present his diaries at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 7, ahead of his 90th birthday and the 50th anniversary of his expatriation from East Germany.
