Nigeria's President Tinubu promises cheaper transport from October via expanded CNG bus use

On September 19, 2026, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu announced that from October 1, 2026, Nigerians will see reduced transportation costs due to expanded use of cheaper CNG-powered transit. The Federal Government is working with states and transport stakeholders to ensure savings translate into lower fares. Examples include Borno, where CNG buses charge N50-N100 versus N300-N600, and Oyo, where Lagos-Ibadan fares dropped from N8,000 to N3,200. Over 120,000 vehicles have been converted, with 400+ conversion centers and 90+ refueling stations nationwide.
