Actor Matthew Lillard says he regrets returning to Scream after Melissa Barrera was fired for Gaza posts

Actor Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher in the original Scream, said he was ashamed and embarrassed for returning to the franchise in Scream 7 after Melissa Barrera was fired for her pro-Palestinian social media posts. He made these remarks during a Q&A at a 30th anniversary screening in Austin, Texas. Barrera was dropped by Spyglass Media Group in November 2023 for describing Israel's actions in Gaza as genocide and ethnic cleansing. Lillard said he was on the wrong side of history and that the world should have supported Barrera. He also referenced Ed Sheeran and Macklemore's situation.
