Ghana's President Mahama launches waste evacuation from Agbogbloshie to Nsawam landfill

On September 18, 2026, Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama commissioned the evacuation of waste from Agbogbloshie in Accra to the Adepa Landfill Site at Nsawam. The ceremony was held at the IRECOP Management Centre in Jamestown, Accra. The exercise, covering about 42 kilometers, is organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, with support from the Ghana Armed Forces and the District Road Improvement Programme. This initiative aims to address waste management and sanitation challenges in the capital.
