Far-right party leads in regional election but struggles to govern

In a recent regional election in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, the Alternative for Germany party (AfD) has achieved a strong lead with around 44% of the vote, a significant increase from its previous 2.1% five years ago. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, is projected to receive about 18.5%, losing substantial support.
