Kosovo's former president sentenced to 25 years for war crimes

On Wednesday, the Kosovo war crimes tribunal in The Hague sentenced former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci to 25 years in prison. He was found guilty of war crimes, including murder, torture, and illegal detention, committed during the 1998-1999 conflict when Kosovo sought independence from Serbia. Thaci, then commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army, was held responsible for the murder of 96 political opponents. He has denied all charges.
