On July 10, 2026, a serious incident occurred on a Ryanair flight traveling from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany. During the flight, a window next to passenger Ljubisa Karovic, a 61-year-old Serbian businessman, shattered, causing him to be partially sucked out of the aircraft. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing back in Thessaloniki shortly after takeoff. Witnesses reported that Karovic's head and shoulders were protruding from the broken window, and other passengers, along with his wife, managed to pull him back inside the plane. Following the incident, he was left with severe injuries, including a swollen and numb head, temporary paralysis on one side of his body, and damage to his right ear and eye. He was also required to wear a neck brace for six weeks due to his injuries. The incident was attributed to a part of the plane's engine breaking away and striking the window. Ryanair confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and that medical assistance was provided to Karovic upon landing. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced an investigation into the incident, with a draft report expected to be released in about four weeks. Karovic expressed his trauma from the experience, stating that he suffers from panic attacks and is now afraid of flying, vowing never to board a plane again. He described the ordeal as a nightmare that has significantly impacted his mental health and daily life, affecting both his work and family relationships. He emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts during flights, reflecting on his belief that he was fortunate to survive the incident.
