Nairobi wins bid to host 2029 world athletics championships
On Tuesday, World Athletics announced that Nairobi, Kenya, will host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, marking the first time the event is held in Africa. The decision was made at a council meeting in Budapest, where Munich, Germany, was also selected to host the 2031 championships. Nairobi beat out London and Rome for the 2029 event. The 2027 championships will be held in Beijing. World Athletics president Sebastian Coe praised Nairobi's bid as compelling and emotional, noting the country's strong athletics culture.
