Nigeria's Power Minister Joseph Tegbe Rules Out Immediate Electricity Tariff Increase

On Monday, Nigeria's Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, assured citizens that the Federal Government has no immediate plans to increase electricity tariffs. Speaking in Abuja to mark his first 100 days in office, Tegbe emphasized the administration's focus on stabilizing the power sector, restoring market discipline, and strengthening governance. He highlighted challenges such as gas supply limitations, ageing generation plants, and high distribution losses. Despite these, he reported gains including restored power plants, upgraded substations, and increased generation above 5,000 MW. The government is also addressing legacy debts and planning future infrastructure improvements.
