South Korea's National Pension Service seeks licence to invest in Indian government bonds

South Korea's National Pension Service, the world's third-largest pension fund, is seeking a licence to invest in Indian government securities under a new compliance-light route introduced by India's market regulator. The route simplifies registration for low-risk investors like pension funds, requiring documentation updates only every ten years. This move comes as India aims to attract more foreign capital into its bond market, especially after significant equity outflows. Foreign investors have already invested $14 billion in Indian government bonds over the past year and this year.
