Japanese swimmer Shin Ohashi breaks 200m breaststroke world record at Asian Games

On September 24, 2026, at the Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan, 17-year-old Shin Ohashi won the men's 200m breaststroke gold medal in a world record time of 2 minutes 4.83 seconds. He broke the previous record of 2:05.48 set by China's Qin Haiyang in July 2023. Ohashi had also won the 100m breaststroke gold earlier in the week. He finished 3.84 seconds ahead of silver medalist Denis Petrashov of Kyrgyzstan. Ohashi said his next goals are to win at the world championships and the 2028 Olympics.
