Australia launches bid for United Nations Security Council seat for 2029-2030

Australia, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, has announced its bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2029-2030 term. Albanese will lobby world leaders during the UN General Assembly in New York, emphasizing Australia's role as a middle power and its contributions to peacekeeping. The election is scheduled for mid-2028, and Australia will need support from two-thirds of UN member states. Australia last served on the council in 2013-2014.
