Nepal elected Vice-Chair of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank for 2026-27

Nepal has been elected Vice-Chair of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for 2026-27, marking its first appointment to this position. The election occurred during the AIIB annual meeting held in Doha, Qatar, on September 28-29, 2026. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, who attended the meeting, was chosen from among regional member countries. At the meeting, Wagle emphasized the need for increased investment in productive sectors like roads, electricity, and information technology. He also held bilateral discussions with finance ministers from Qatar, India, Bangladesh, Armenia, and Georgia on economic cooperation and post-disaster reconstruction support. Nepal's new role is expected to enhance its infrastructure development through greater AIIB investment and technology transfer.
