Israeli airstrike on Gaza City kills five, targets senior Hamas member Ali al-Omari

On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike on a residential building in Gaza City killed at least five Palestinians and wounded five others, according to Palestinian rescue workers. The strike targeted an apartment, and rescue teams searched for more victims. Israeli military correspondent Itay Blumental reported that the attack was a targeted attempt to kill Ali al-Omari, a senior Hamas member and a leading candidate in the planned secret election for a Hamas leader in Gaza. It was unclear if al-Omari survived. The Israeli military did not comment.
