FBI arrests Minnesota teenager Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud for plotting ISIS attack on Mall of America

On October 6, 2026, the FBI arrested 18-year-old Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud in Richfield, Minnesota, after he bought an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from an undercover agent for $600. The arrest ended a nearly two-year investigation that began in December 2024, during which Mohamud expressed support for ISIS and planned attacks on the Mall of America and other locations. He was charged with receiving a firearm for use in a terrorism-related felony. U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen praised the operation for preventing a potential mass casualty event.
