US workers' job-loss fears fall to lowest level since December 2024, New York Fed survey shows

In September, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's survey showed Americans' job-loss fears fell to their lowest level since December 2024, with the perceived probability of losing a job dropping to 13.5%. Expectations for finding new work and quitting voluntarily also improved. Households anticipated higher income and spending growth, and the likelihood of missing debt payments declined. However, inflation expectations rose, and households felt worse about their finances. Separately, initial jobless claims fell to 197,000, indicating a stable labor market with low layoffs.
