International Court Rules for Nigeria in Mambilla Dam Dispute with Sunrise Power
On September 17, 2026, an International Chamber of Commerce tribunal in Paris ruled in favor of Nigeria in an arbitration case brought by Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Limited over the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in Taraba State. The tribunal rejected Sunrise's claim for $680 million and ordered the company to pay Nigeria $11.82 million in legal fees. President Bola Tinubu commended the ruling, which he said clears a major hurdle for the project. The dispute dates back to an alleged 2003 contract that was never authorized by the Federal Executive Council.
