French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announces 3,000 substitute teachers to end school protests

In France, Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced on Thursday the deployment of over 3,000 substitute teachers to 114 high schools to address ongoing student protests over teacher shortages. The plan, developed by Education Minister Edouard Geffray, also includes hiring additional staff and budget amendments for 2027. Protests have spread to university students, with 71,500 demonstrators on Thursday, including 24,500 in Paris. While mostly peaceful, there were 504 arrests and incidents of violence, including arson and attacks on school staff. The government aims to implement measures by the coming week.
