Ethiopian federal army enters Tigray capital Mekele after rebel forces withdraw

Ethiopian federal troops entered Mekele, the capital of the Tigray region, on Saturday after TPLF forces withdrew. The city was largely abandoned, with no immediate fighting reported. The TPLF, which had controlled the region since April, is now expected to shift to guerrilla tactics. The conflict has raised concerns of regional escalation, with Ethiopia and Eritrea breaking diplomatic ties.
