Germany's Federal Court of Justice rules Amazon Prime price increase without customer consent invalid

In Germany, the Federal Court of Justice ruled that Amazon's 2022 price increase for Prime subscriptions was invalid because the company did not obtain explicit customer consent. The annual fee had risen from 69 to 89.90 euros, and the monthly fee from 7.99 to 8.99 euros. The court upheld earlier rulings by Düsseldorf courts. Amazon stated it would inform affected members before their next payment, while already paid fees would be handled in a separate proceeding. The consumer protection organization Verbraucherzentrale Nordrhein-Westfalen had filed the lawsuit.
