Todd Steggerda becomes US ambassador to UN in Geneva after two-year vacancy

The United States has appointed Todd Steggerda as its ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, filling a vacancy that lasted nearly two years. Steggerda presented his credentials to Tatiana Valovaya, the UN's Director-General in Geneva, on Monday. He previously worked as a lawyer at an international law firm. The US continues to boycott the UN Human Rights Council and, for the first time, refused to participate in the Universal Periodic Review. However, the US remains engaged with other UN agencies, including the International Telecommunication Union.
