Finland builds 200-kilometre fence to secure border with Russia

Finland has built a 200-kilometre security fence along its eastern border with Russia to address rising tensions and security concerns. The project, initiated in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, aims to prevent hybrid warfare tactics, including the use of migration as a pressure tool. The fence features surveillance technology and patrol roads, costing approximately 356 million euros. Finland's border remains closed indefinitely, with proposed legislation extending the ability to restrict asylum applications until 2028.
