British Museum bans photography of Bayeux Tapestry after crowds cause delays

The British Museum in London has banned visitors from photographing the Bayeux Tapestry, a medieval embroidery on loan from France, just two weeks after the exhibition opened on 10 September 2026. The decision was made because crowds stopping to take pictures were causing long queues and delaying other ticket-holders. The tapestry, which depicts the Norman conquest of England in 1066, is on display in Britain for the first time. Tickets are sold out until December, with more expected in October. The museum said the priority is to ensure all visitors have the best experience possible.
