Displaced Gazan Omar al-Hassayna waits in Egypt for Gaza's reconstruction before returning home

Omar al-Hassayna, a Palestinian from Gaza, fled to Cairo after an Israeli airstrike killed 308 members of his extended family in November 2023. Three years later, he remains in Egypt, one of over 100,000 Gazans displaced during the war. He waits for stability and reconstruction in Gaza before returning. Despite a ceasefire, little has changed, and only about 7,000 Palestinians have returned. Hassayna, who lost his wife, sons, and grandchildren, sells surviving goods to fund his stay in Cairo, where he has remarried.
