Nigeria confirms withdrawal of US troops amid security crisis

Nigeria has confirmed the withdrawal of around 200 U.S. troops sent to assist in tackling its security crisis. The troops were deployed in February 2026 amid rising tensions between Nigeria and the U.S. due to accusations of Christian genocide. The Nigerian government stated that the U.S. forces aided in training and intelligence operations, including a joint mission that led to the death of an Islamic State leader.
