Cardinals edge Giants 2-1 as Mathews takes no-hitter into sixth
In St. Louis on Monday night, the Cardinals defeated the Giants 2-1. Rookie left-hander Quinn Mathews took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, finishing with eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Alec Burleson's RBI single in the fifth gave him 110 RBIs, the most in the majors. Leo Bernal also drove in a run. The Giants scored in the sixth on a single by Jonah Cox. Riley O'Brien earned his 37th save. The teams play again Tuesday.
