OpenAI unveils Jalapeno chip for advanced AI inference

In August 2026, OpenAI showcased its Jalapeno AI accelerator at the Hot Chips conference in Stanford, US. Developed with Broadcom, this chip focuses on inference, promising higher throughput and lower latency than traditional GPU systems. It features 128 accelerators capable of delivering 1.7 exaFLOPS and has been benchmarked to outperform current state-of-the-art processors in efficiency and speed.
