European Parliament urges EU-wide rules to protect workers from burnout and stress
On Tuesday, the European Parliament passed a resolution urging the European Commission to introduce EU-wide rules to protect workers from burnout, stress, and other work-related mental health conditions. The resolution, drafted by Belgian MEP Estelle Ceulemans, calls for recognising psychosocial risks as occupational diseases, binding employer obligations, stronger labour inspections, and a right to disconnect. It also proposes reversing the burden of proof in occupational disease cases and making telework voluntary. Far-right groups opposed the text. According to EU-OSHA, 29% of EU workers experienced work-related stress, depression, or anxiety in 2025.
