US declares China wrongfully detained American scholar Min Zin

The U.S. State Department has designated Min Zin, a Myanmar scholar and U.S. citizen, as wrongfully detained by China. Min Zin was arrested on June 3 in Yunnan Province after being invited by the Chinese government to an academic conference. He is accused of endangering national security and espionage, charges the U.S. considers baseless. The designation makes securing his release a top U.S. priority and comes ahead of a planned meeting between President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 24. Min Zin is the second American academic designated as wrongfully detained in recent months, following seismologist Youlin Chen.
