VSMC opens S$8.5 billion chip plant in Singapore, creating 1,600 jobs

On September 28, 2026, VSMC, a joint venture between Taiwan's Vanguard International Semiconductor and the Netherlands' NXP Semiconductors, opened its S$8.5 billion wafer fabrication plant in Tampines, Singapore. The facility will produce specialty chips using 40- to 130-nanometer technology, serving markets like automotive and industrial. It is expected to create 1,600 jobs and reach full capacity by 2029, producing 44,000 wafers per month. Volume production starts in Q1 2027. The opening was attended by Singapore's Trade Minister, who highlighted the importance of specialty semiconductors.
