On Wednesday, authorities made a grim discovery off the Southern California coast when they intercepted a small boat carrying illegal migrants. The vessel was located approximately 14 miles west of San Clemente Island, a part of California's Channel Islands. The Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection officials found 21 individuals on board, all of whom were illegal migrants. Among them was a 56-year-old man who was unresponsive when authorities boarded the boat. Emergency medical personnel performed CPR on him, and he was subsequently airlifted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. The Coast Guard's Air Station Ventura dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to conduct the medical evacuation. While the aircrew continued CPR during the transport, hospital staff managed to restore the man's pulse. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, he ultimately did not survive. The circumstances surrounding the man's death raise serious concerns about the dangers faced by individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally via small boats. The boat was reported to authorities by a good Samaritan who suspected it was involved in alien smuggling. The other 20 migrants on board were detained and transferred to U.S. Border Patrol personnel for processing.
