South Korea says North Korean mines likely caused DMZ blasts that injured three soldiers

South Korea's military said on Monday that explosions that injured three of its officers last week inside the Demilitarized Zone were probably caused by North Korean mines. The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced the preliminary finding after inspecting the site with the U.S.-led United Nations Command. The blasts occurred September 21 while establishing a patrol route. Vice Chairman Kwon Dae-won said there was a very high possibility North Korean mines caused the explosions. He warned that if confirmed, South Korea will hold North Korea fully responsible and take appropriate measures. The incident raises tensions amid deteriorating relations.
