Bradley Townsend becomes first UK national killed fighting for Russia in Ukraine
In June 2022, Bradley Townsend, a 33-year-old from Barnsley, was killed in Ukraine while fighting for Russian forces. He had traveled to Moscow after misleading his family about his destination. Townsend was recruited by British pro-Russian fighters and signed a contract to fight despite lacking military experience. His death, reported as a result of a drone strike, has raised concerns about the motivations behind foreign fighters joining the conflict.
