Danish intelligence warns of low but growing risk of Russian attack on NATO countries

On September 24, 2026, the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (DDIS) in Copenhagen released an updated threat assessment stating that while a full-scale Russian invasion of a NATO country is highly unlikely, the risk of a limited military attack against NATO members bordering Russia is low but growing. The head of DDIS, Thomas Ahrenkiel, said such an attack could involve drones, false-flag operations, or limited troop deployments, aiming to divide NATO. The agency also warned of intensified hybrid attacks, including sabotage and cyber attacks, to weaken support for Ukraine. Denmark itself is not expected to face a conventional attack.
