American tourist struggles to return home after Mount Etna erupts

In early August 2023, Mount Etna erupted in Sicily, disrupting flights at Catania International Airport. American traveler Julie Sagoskin, who arrived on August 1, found her return flight canceled on August 10. Many travelers were affected, with over a third of flights canceled during the eruption. Sagoskin eventually traveled to Rome to find an alternative flight home.
