President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., could close or be "ripped down" if his administration does not receive recognition on the building. This followed a federal judge's ruling that blocked the center's board from adding a tribute to Trump. The board, controlled by Trump appointees, then voted to close the center for renovations. Trump said he would withhold $257 million in congressionally approved funds unless his name is added. Kerry Kennedy, a niece of John F. Kennedy, accused Trump of taking the center "hostage."
