Ireland's Data Protection Commission fines Google 403 million euros for GDPR location data breaches

On September 21, 2026, Ireland's Data Protection Commission fined Google 403 million euros for breaches of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The inquiry, which began in 2020, found that Google's processing of location data was not lawful, fair, or transparent. Users could have been unaware that their location was used for targeted ads or to infer interests. The DPC ordered Google to comply within six months. This is the fourth largest fine issued by the DPC since GDPR took effect.
